Family Educational Rights 和 Privacy Act (FERPA) 和 Directory Information

 

什么是FERPA?

The Family Education Right to Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a federal m和ate designed to protect the privacy of students’ records.   It includes academic records, financial aid records, attendance records 和 any other personally identifiable information collected by the college that, if shared, could violate the privacy rights of students 以前的学生. As a result of FERPA students 以前的学生 have the following rights:

  • To inspect 和 review education records.
  • To request an amendment of education records believed to be inaccurate or misleading.
  • To consent to the disclosure of personally identifiable information 和, conversely, to block the disclosure of information that is considered “directory” in nature.
  • 向美国政府提出申诉. S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the college to comply with the requirements of FERPA.

At 易世博, directory information includes the following items:  

  • 名字

  • Participation in officially recognized athletic teams including weight, height, 和 毕业高中

  • Degrees 和 certificates awarded including honors, scholarship awards, athletic awards 和院长的名单认可
  • Photographs, video or web image of the individual or campus scenes including the individual in College publications, promotional materials, or on the College’s website.
  • 名字s, addresses, phone number of graduates 以前的学生 for publication in the College alumni directory 和 only with their consent.
  • A student ID number or other unique personal identifier that is displayed on a student ID card, but only if the identifier cannot be used to gain access to education records except when used in conjunction with one or more factors that authenticate the user’s identity, such as a PIN, password, or other factor known or possessed only by the 授权用户.

What does FERPA consider to be part of a student’s private educational record?  而且, when may this information be shared with a third party?

  • Social security number or any other unique identifier which would allow a student 被单独识别.

  • Financial information—amount of bill, who paid it, how it was paid.

Personally identifiable information may be shared in the following situations:

  • The student has signed a release which is on file in the Office of 招生 和 记录.
  • The information is requested by another 易世博 Office or employee with a legitimate educational interest in the information requested.
  • The information has been subpoenaed 和 the student notified of that fact. 
  • The information is required through a court order.
  • The information has been requested by an authorized representative of a federal- or state-supported program in order to comply with legal requirements related to those 项目.

学生 will be notified through their hartnell@gmail.edu account at the end of the 4th week of the fall 和 spring semesters about the College's directory information 和 the option 和 procedures to opt out of being part of the 学院目录信息.  The deadline for submission of opting out is the 本学期第九周的周五.  学生 can at anytime revoke their original request for opting out of directory information.

The form to request to not participate in Directory information for 易世博 可以在这里找到 Authorization for Release of 学生 记录 form.   In addition, you can revoke your Authorization for Release of 学生 records 通过完成 Revoke Previous Request to Prohibit Release of Directory Information”  by completing 和 submitting the form to the 招生 & 记录办公室.
